Company Profile

Theatre of Image Ltd (TOI) was founded in 1988 by the Artistic Director, Kim Carpenter.

TOI is an advocate for young people and their families. Through the vision of the Artistic Director, Theatre of Image tells Australian and universal stories to our young people as much through visual and musical images as through words.

By combining high production values with the expertise of the best Australian performing artists, TOI offers young people a real alternative to the cinema, television and theme parks that have increasingly become the mainstays of their cultural diet.

TOI has toured regionally, nationally and internationally. The company has collaborated with major performing arts companies in Australia, Canada and Japan.

A word from Hugo Weaving

My involvement with Kim Carpenter's Theatre of Image as audience member, parent (of two small fans), actor, board member and now, Ambassador, has spanned some 20 years.  During that time Kim Carpenter and the company have created exciting, challenging, visually arresting and magical theatre for young audiences.  These productions are unique to Theatre of Image, combining live action, puppetry, music, dance and design with digital media and text – both classic and contemporary.

Theatre is a great stimulator of the enquiring mind and, more than any other company in the country over the past 20 years, Theatre of Image has consistently animated the creative instincts of young Australians.
