Imagine you're part of a travelling circus – pitching the big top in a new town every few days. A life of sawdust and tinsel, hotdogs and candyfloss, thrills, danger and excitement.

With the smell of the greasepaint and the roar of the crowd, imaging who you might be: the flying trapeze artist, the breathtaking tightrope walker, amazing acrobats, snake charmer, jugglers, strong woman, ring-master, lion tamer or the crazy clowns. Teeny Weeny Wonders

Mon 12 & Tues 13 July
Wed 14 & Thur 15 July

Suits 5 - 12 year olds

We can play with scale, space and perspective as tinyness depends on where you are looking from. We will explore everything that is tiny - from cute, innocent bugs and beetles to the dangerous, villainous ants and mozzies.

In drama, art & music create stories of Tinyness – winning over giants and monsters like the storybook heroes Tom Thumb, Thumbelina, Jack & The Beanstalk, or travelling in tiny worlds such as Gulliver's Travels in Lilliput or Alice In Wonderland.

A visit to the Tinytoreum – created by the museum & Michael Leunig – will be the springboard for this workshop.

Caring for our town. Stories and ideas of how we can improve our neighbourhood. How can we make a happy, healthy and cleaner environment for the future?

How can we improve the lives of our families, friends, pets, local shopkeepers, postmen and neighbours – and nurture the unique character of where we live? Creating a happy, sustainable future. A visit to the wonderful Ecological Exhibit will provide an extra stimulus for this workshop.

Mon 20 & Tues 21 December

Suits 5 - 12 year olds

As the world commemorated the 40th anniversary of putting man on the moon, Buzz Aldrin, pilot of the Apollo 11 mission said “I believe we deserve more than footprints on the moon. It is time to put man on Mars.” Such an event is 20 years away. But we can imagine and explore amazing stories in drama, art & music.

Take your imagination way out beyond The Earth into our solar system and out into the rest of our galaxy and explore the Martian Mystique. What about a holiday on Mars? Would it really be one? Look into the distant future and imagine Martian cities, lifestyle and climate conditions.

Space: Includes a visit to the Museum’s Space Exhibition

The Book of Everything - Page to Stage Workshop

Wed 15 + Thurs 16 July, 2010

These special one-day workshops focus on two main aspects of making drama:

The creative process in adapting an idea, story or novel to a playscript or dramatic form. Conducted by Richard Tulloch, celebrated writer of novels and playscripts for young people.

The creative process in interpreting a script or text in developing the design of set, costumes, props and technology for a stage production. Conducted by ToI's Artistic Director, Kim Carpenter - a well-known director and designer of opera, dance, drama and theatre for young audiences.

Young people are split into 2 groups according to age with equal sessions in Drama with Richard and Design-in-Drama with Kim.
